Dorow Collection Gallery | Mineral Collection Interior Photography | Kauai
Commissioned by The Dorow Collection, this photograph documents the private gallery in Kauai that houses one of the world's exceptional collections of museum-quality mineral specimens. The assignment extended beyond architectural photography, encompassing the complete photographic documentation of the Collection's extraordinary crystals and minerals for the large-format publication Arquivistas and the Collection's archive. The Dorow Collection presents minerals as records of geological time, structure, and natural form within a carefully curated architectural environment.
The gallery was designed to encourage close observation, where architecture, lighting, and display work together to reveal the remarkable scale, color, and sculptural presence of each specimen. This photograph captures the relationship between the exhibition space and the Collection itself, illustrating how thoughtful interior design can elevate natural objects into a museum-quality viewing experience.
This commission reflects Matthew Roharik's experience photographing private collections, museums, galleries, luxury interiors, and exceptional natural objects. From documenting the architectural environment to producing detailed museum-quality photographs of every featured specimen, the project demonstrates a comprehensive approach to visual storytelling for collectors, cultural institutions, publishers, and designers.
